Dr. Melvin Hanzel believes that dentistry should be about the patient, not the teeth. He has carried this philosophy with him throughout his 30-year career and has set an example to other dentists on the benefits of positive, trusting patient/doctor relationships. Dr. Hanzel is dedicated to finding solutions to his patients’ problems, even when other dentists might have given up. He often heals teeth that were previously believed to be unsavable, and he is confident in treating patients deemed medically compromised. He always offers unique treatments attuned to the patient’s individual needs, including precision attachments, overdentures, and natural-looking cosmetic partial dentures. For patients with severe dental anxiety, Dr. Hanzel can use advanced sedation techniques to put them at ease as he completes their treatments.

Dr. Hanzel earned his BA in biology at the University of Rhode Island. He attended Tufts University School of Dental Medicine where he earned his DMD. He then went to the Brookdale Hospital Medical Center as Chief Resident in Dentistry to complete a 2-year general practice residency program from 1978 to 1979. During this time, he also worked as a clinical instructor at NYU.

He moved back to Rhode Island immediately after his residency to work alongside his father, Dr. Harold Hanzel, at his practice. Since then, he has become a staff member of the Rhode Island Hospital and in 1982, he became the dental consultant for the hemophilia center. Much of his time at the hospital was spent receiving advanced training in various areas of dentistry including root canal treatment, sedation dentistry, oral surgery, internal medicine, and implant dentistry. He has also become specialized in placing tooth-colored fillings, and other cosmetic dentistry procedures.

Today, Dr. Hanzel is an active member of the Academy of General Dentistry, the Rhode Island Dental Association, the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry, and the American Dental Association.

Grownups are not the only ones who benefit from regular dental care. Adolescents need regular checkups and cleanings as well, and they need to be monitored by a dentist for signs of threats to their oral health. This could include dental misalignment, or for teens, the eruption of the wisdom teeth. If you need to book an appointment with a family dentist in Boston, MA with experience helping little smiles, then Doctors Network is ready to help you.

Routine examinations should begin as soon as all twenty baby teeth erupt, and should not be skipped. These visits enable your Boston pediatric dentist to watch the smile over time, and if areas of concern develop, such as tooth decay, or gingivitis, then intervention might be needed. In addition, kids can often receive a topical fluoride gel to strengthen the outer enamel of their dentition and prevent tooth cavities. Sealants, which coat the hard-to-reach rear teeth, can lower the risk of cavities too. In fact, sealants can provide protection against tooth cavities for as long as a decade in some cases.

If you are searching for dentists in Boston who can provide children’s dentistry, contact us. We want to help you find the right dental care provider. With routine care kids not only enjoy strong and healthy smiles, but they also understand the value of good oral hygiene. These visits can start them on the path to a lifetime of healthy gums and teeth. All of it starts with that first checkup and cleaning. So, use our search tool to find the best dentist for you and your children!

It is paramount for children to visit a pediatric dentist bi-yearly for checkups and cleanings. By teaching your kids great oral health habits, you are ensuring that they have the tools to have healthy smiles for many years. If you are looking for a pediatric dentist in Boston who takes patients with no dental insurance, you are on the right website.

In addition to offering checkups and cleanings, pediatric dentists on Doctors Network also provide your child with protective sealants. Sealants are thin layers of film that go on top of their back teeth. They work as a protective film that forms a protective layer between their back teeth and harmful germs. This ultimately prevents the risk of cavities by up to 80 percent. It is a simple procedure that is very effective at preventing cavities on adult teeth in the future.

Fluoride treatments are another effective tool that your pediatric dental professionals provide. Fluoride is a naturally occurring mineral that helps strengthen your child’s teeth. While enamel is one of the most durable substances our bodies produce, it can still weaken over time. When this occurs, your kid’s teeth become more susceptible to damage. Fluoride treatment helps stop decay from occurring. Using fluoride toothpaste can also help. For more information, please schedule an appointment with one of our dental practices in Boston.

Many individuals would prefer to have a whiter smile. When you venture down the aisles of any drug store, you see numerous products that tout their teeth whitening abilities. If you have tried any of these, you know that they almost always provide disappointing results. However, professional teeth whitening can actually give you a brighter smile. If you are looking for a dentist in Boston, MA that takes uninsured patients, we can help you find one that offers professional whitening.

When you visit your Boston dental practice, they can provide you with either an at-home or in-office treatment option. If you choose the in-office treatment, you will have brighter teeth within about an hour. When you visit the office for whitening, your dentist will apply a special bleaching gel that, when activated by a special light, will get rid of stains.

If you would prefer to go with an at-home treatment, your dentist will give you a set of custom trays that you can use along with a safe bleaching or peroxide solution. You will put these on for one or two hours each day for roughly 2 weeks. Once this treatment is complete, you will have a brighter smile. If you would like to schedule a visit with a Boston dentist that takes uninsured patients, we can help you find a great one.

If it has been over six months since you last saw a dentist, you probably should schedule a checkup soon. When you go in for bi-annual visits, your dentist can closely examine your teeth to make sure nothing is amiss. This helps prevent decay from occurring, minimizing the chance of needing more costly procedures down the road. If you are looking for a dentist in Boston, MA that takes patients who are uninsured we can help you find a great practice.

To begin your visit, a hygienist will clean your teeth thoroughly. This will remove built-up that is difficult to remove at home — even with terrific brushing and flossing habits. The dental prophylaxis will leave your teeth feeling fresh.

Once your cleaning is done, your Boston dentist will begin his or her examination. During this portion of your visit, the dentist will thoroughly look at your mouth to identify any potential problems. Should they notice something awry, they will explain your treatment options. The Boston practice we set you up with will offer comprehensive services to address a variety of dental complications. If you visit the dentist regularly they can monitor the health of your mouth. If you have any questions or would like to schedule an appointment with a dentist that works with patients who are uninsured, we can help you find a great one.

With over six million people to care for, Massachusetts makes good oral and overall health a priority. In fact, less than 3.3% of people in the entire state do not have insurance. Nevertheless, the costs of dental health care continue to rise, and in many cases, even comprehensive dental insurance may be insufficient to protect patients from high out-of-pocket expenses. To help protect families from inadequate insurance coverage, or from the lack of insurance altogether, Doctors Network and dentists across Massachusetts now offer direct dental plans to lower the costs of all dental treatments. Under the plan, checkup and cleaning appointments are only $25 per visit, with no extra charge for routine X-rays. Personalized treatments and procedures, including fillings, crowns, teeth-whitening, dental implants, Invisalign®, and more, are guaranteed to be reduced significantly, sometimes by up to 90%.
