Dr. John Haywood grew up in the Birmingham area and is a graduate of Spain Park High School. He went on to earn a degree in Chemical Engineering from The University of Alabama before pursuing his Doctor of Dental Medicine at the UAB School of Dentistry, where he graduated in 2019.

As part of his commitment to staying at the forefront of dental care, Dr. Haywood is an active member of several professional organizations, including the American Dental Association (ADA), the Academy of General Dentistry (AGD), the American Association of Endodontists (AAE), and the American Academy of Facial Esthetics (AAFE). He also serves on the executive council of the Birmingham District Dental Society.

After gaining valuable experience practicing dentistry across Alabama, Dr. Haywood returned to Birmingham to open Haywood Family and Cosmetic Dentistry. His goal is to create a practice where patients feel like part of the family, receiving the highest quality care in a welcoming, compassionate environment. Dr. Haywood focuses on providing both functional and aesthetic dental treatments while being sensitive to the anxieties many patients experience during dental visits.

Outside of the office, Dr. Haywood enjoys spending time with his wife, Dr. Jessie, and their two children, Charlotte and Jackson. He is a passionate Alabama fan and enjoys playing golf in his downtime. Dr. Haywood is excited to continue growing his practice alongside his patients and the Birmingham community.

In addition to his formal education, Dr. Melazzo completed a one-year internship working with special needs patients at the Sparks Center (formerly the Center for Disabled and Learning Disabilities – CDLD) in Birmingham. He further expanded his knowledge and skills through advanced education, completing programs at the Foundation for Advanced Dental Education in San Francisco, UCLA, and the Nash Institute. Dr. Melazzo has also participated in numerous courses through the Frank Spear Study Club.

Most recently, he has completed over 250 hours of specialized training in dental implants at the Comprehensive Implant Residency Program (CIRP) in Birmingham.

Dr. Melazzo is a dedicated member of St. Peter's Catholic Church, where he is involved in various activities and committees. He and his wife, Angela, have one son, Trey. A passionate Auburn University football fan, Dr. Melazzo enjoys attending games in the fall and cherishes spending time with old friends. He also has a deep interest in music, particularly bluegrass, and enjoys both learning and playing music in his spare time.

Dr. Brett Whitaker, a native of Tuscaloosa, chose dentistry as his career after recognizing the significant impact oral health can have on a person’s self-esteem and well-being. Inspired by the close-knit, supportive family environment he grew up in, Dr. Whitaker aimed to create a similar atmosphere for his own practice—one centered on family values and dedicated to serving the Tuscaloosa community.

Dr. Whitaker completed his undergraduate studies at Shelton State Community College and the University of Alabama, where he also excelled in baseball, lettering for four years. He went on to earn his Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD) degree from the University of Alabama School of Dentistry. During dental school, he gained extensive hands-on experience through outreach programs and clinical care, allowing him to master a variety of dental procedures. His training included advanced techniques such as CAD-CAM technology, cosmetic dentistry, digital imaging for oral diagnosis and dental implant restorations.

Committed to staying current with the latest advancements in dentistry, Dr. Whitaker regularly participates in continuing education courses and is an active member of both the American Dental Association and the Alabama Dental Association. Outside of his professional life, he enjoys golfing and spending time at the lake with his parents and sister. He also loves making memories with his niece and nephew.

Dr. Tickle earned his Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD) degree from the University of Alabama at Birmingham. To offer the most advanced tooth replacement options to his patients, he also completed an intensive Implant Dentistry Continuum, staying at the forefront of modern dental treatments.

He is an active member of several professional organizations including the Academy of General Dentistry, the Alabama Dental Association, the American Dental Association, the International Dental Implant Association, and the Sixth District Dental Society.

Dr. Tickle and his wife, Brandee, are the proud parents of two energetic boys, Jackson and Jacob. The family is deeply involved in their community as members of Calvary Baptist Church in Tuscaloosa.

Outside of work, Dr. Tickle enjoys spending quality time with his family, especially outdoors. They take annual beach vacations and cherish moments spent together. He’s also a fan of fishing and enjoys college basketball and football when he can.
