Tennessee holds the tie with Missouri for most neighborly state, being bordered by a total of eight other states. However, its official nickname is the Volunteer State, which volunteer soldiers from Tennessee earned when they fought with exceptional valor in the Battle of New Orleans. Today, being neighborly and helping others is a distinct Tennessee characteristic, along with its myriad of tourist attractions, such as Graceland and the Grand Ole Opry. To help families across the state take better care of themselves, Doctors Network has partnered with dentists across Tennessee to help keep dental health costs easily manageable. Patients who sign up for a direct dental plan through their primary dentists can enjoy savings on every dental treatment they receive, from routine checkups and cleanings to lifelike restorations and more.

Tennessee’s friendly ambience is easily noticeable to tourists in the smiling faces they see everywhere they go. Maintaining those smiles isn’t always easy, especially for the 12% of the population that does not have insurance. With a population of over 6.6 million people coupled with the increasing costs of dental health care, experts in Tennessee have taken an important step in helping to ensure a high standard of dental care for everyone. With a direct dental plan from Doctors Network, your dentist can provide high-end dental care at substantially discounted prices. For example, checkup and cleaning appointments only cost $25 per visit under a direct dental plan, including routine X-rays at no additional cost. Cosmetic treatments like teeth-whitening and Invisalign®, as well as restorations such as tooth fillings, dental crowns, and dental implants, are all discounted significantly, often by up to 90%.

Direct dental plans can help all patients receive the dental care they deserve at more reasonable costs, whether they have insurance coverage or not. Doctors Network is not an insurance company, and a direct dental plan does not interfere with the structures of your insurance plan. To learn more, speak with your dentist about signing up the next time you visit, or you can search the Doctors Network website at www.doctorsnetwork.com to find a dentist near you who offers a direct dental plan.

What is a root canal?

Root canal therapy, also known as RCT, is a dental service performed to treat infections or damage within the pulp chamber of a tooth. The pulp is the tissue located inside the tooth, and it contains nerves, blood vessels, and connective tissues. When the pulp tissue becomes infected or inflamed due to tooth decay, trauma, or other factors, a root canal treatment may be needed to save the tooth and eliminate pain. Here is how a root canal treatment is performed: 1. Diagnosis and Examination: The first step of the root canal treatment is a complete examination by a general dentist or an endodontist. This typically entails taking X-rays to evaluate the extent of the infection and determine if a root canal is actually needed. Symptoms that may signal the need for a root canal include severe toothache, sensitivity to hot and cold, swelling of the gums or face, or a pimple-like bump on the gum adjacent to the tooth. 2. Local Anesthesia: Before beginning the treatment, the dentist will inject local anesthesia to numb the infected tooth and surrounding soft tissues. This ensures that the patient stays comfortable throughout the treatment. 3. Accessing the Pulp: Once the tooth is numbed, the endodontist will drill a small hole in the top of the tooth, called an access, to reach the infected or inflamed pulp tissue. This allows the dentist to remove the diseased pulp and clean the root canals. 4. Cleaning and Shaping the Root Canals: Using specialized tools, the dentist will remove the infected or damaged pulp from the root canals. The canals are cleaned and shaped to remove the remaining bacteria, debris, and infection. Irrigation with antimicrobial solutions will then disinfect the canals. 5. Filling the Root Canals: After all the canals have been cleaned and shaped (widened), they are filled with a bio-compatible filling material called gutta-percha. This seals off the canals to prevent re-contamination and provides protection for the tooth structure. 6. Sealing the Access Cavity: After the root canals have been filled, the access cavity is covered with a temporary or permanent filling materials to prevent bacteria and debris from entering it and causing an infection. 7. Restoration: Sometimes, a tooth that has undergone root canal therapy may need additional restoration, such as a dental crown (cap), to protect and restore the tooth function. A dental crown is placed on the tooth to restore its natural appearance and functionality. Root canal treatment is very successful in saving teeth that might otherwise need to be extracted because of the infection of the pulp. With proper maintenance and good oral hygiene, a tooth that has gotten a root canal can function normally for years or even decades, allowing patients to preserve their natural smiles.

It was so easy to find a doctor and make an appointment. I didn't have to take hours to call different offices and find out who takes my insurance and who doesn't.

I'm a freelancer, so I can't buy insurance easily, so I always ended up paying a lot for doctors' visits. I signed up for a Doctors Network dental plan, and my dental cleanings cost only $25 now. If you don't have dental insurance I highly recommend it.

I fell off my bike and chipped my front tooth. I was able to find and book an appointment online right away. Next time I need an appointment I'll try Doctors Network again.
