Dr. Alexis Lyons, known to her patients as Dr. Lexie, is grateful to have a fulfilling career centered around improving the health and well-being of others. She understands the powerful impact a beautiful, straight smile can have on both one’s appearance and self-confidence, and she is passionate about helping patients maintain their oral health for a lifetime. To Dr. Lexie, a new smile is just the beginning of a journey toward overall wellness. With a focus on personalized care, Dr. Lexie offers a range of treatment options to suit each patient's needs, from traditional braces to Invisalign clear aligners. She takes pride in guiding patients toward achieving the smile they've always wanted, while also ensuring that their treatment fits seamlessly into their everyday life. Dr. Lexie’s interest in dentistry began in her teenage years. She worked and volunteered in both dental and orthodontic offices during her college years, gaining hands-on experience that further fueled her passion for the field. Her own positive orthodontic experience during college, combined with her sister’s experience with orthodontics and jaw surgery, inspired her to pursue a career in dentistry. The presence of severe dental and jaw issues in her family motivated Dr. Lexie to further her education and explore ways to help others facing similar challenges. Professional Memberships American Association of Orthodontists American Board of Orthodontics Pacific Coast Society of Orthodontists California Association of Orthodontists American Dental Association California Dental Association Sacramento Dental Society Education and Training Dr. Lexie holds a bachelor’s degree in biology from Saint Mary’s College of California, where she was an honor student and a member of the women’s rowing team. She also had the opportunity to study abroad at Sydney University in Australia, where she combined her love for biology with her passion for surfing. She then pursued her dental education at the University of the Pacific Arthur A. Dugoni Dental School in San Francisco, where she graduated with honors. Afterward, Dr. Lexie completed her orthodontic residency at Washington Hospital Center in Washington, DC. During her residency, Dr. Lexie worked as part of the craniofacial team at Children’s National Medical Center, where she provided treatment for children with cleft lips, palates, and other craniofacial conditions. This experience, working alongside a team of skilled professionals, deepened her understanding of complex cases that required both orthodontics and jaw surgery. Dr. Lexie is a board-certified orthodontist, a distinction she earned after passing a comprehensive examination by the American Board of Orthodontics (ABO). This certification reflects her advanced skills and expertise in the field, going above and beyond the years of specialized education required to become an orthodontic specialist. Outside of Work Dr. Lexie and her husband, Dr. Dao, married in 2011, reside in Roseville with their three daughters. When she’s not in the office, Dr. Lexie enjoys spending time with her family, working out, trying new restaurants, and traveling to different parts of the world to experience new cultures. Community Involvement Dr. Lexie is deeply committed to giving back to the community. She has organized and participated in several volunteer dental missions, both locally and abroad. In addition, Dr. Lexie supports the Sacramento Dental Society’s Smile for Kids Program by adopting children annually, helping provide orthodontic care to underserved children in the area.

Root canal therapy, also known as RCT, is a dental service performed to treat infections or damage within the pulp chamber of a tooth. The pulp is the tissue located inside the tooth, and it contains nerves, blood vessels, and connective tissues. When the pulp tissue becomes infected or inflamed due to tooth decay, trauma, or other factors, a root canal treatment may be needed to save the tooth and eliminate pain. Here is how a root canal treatment is performed: 1. Diagnosis and Examination: The first step of the root canal treatment is a complete examination by a general dentist or an endodontist. This typically entails taking X-rays to evaluate the extent of the infection and determine if a root canal is actually needed. Symptoms that may signal the need for a root canal include severe toothache, sensitivity to hot and cold, swelling of the gums or face, or a pimple-like bump on the gum adjacent to the tooth. 2. Local Anesthesia: Before beginning the treatment, the dentist will inject local anesthesia to numb the infected tooth and surrounding soft tissues. This ensures that the patient stays comfortable throughout the treatment. 3. Accessing the Pulp: Once the tooth is numbed, the endodontist will drill a small hole in the top of the tooth, called an access, to reach the infected or inflamed pulp tissue. This allows the dentist to remove the diseased pulp and clean the root canals. 4. Cleaning and Shaping the Root Canals: Using specialized tools, the dentist will remove the infected or damaged pulp from the root canals. The canals are cleaned and shaped to remove the remaining bacteria, debris, and infection. Irrigation with antimicrobial solutions will then disinfect the canals. 5. Filling the Root Canals: After all the canals have been cleaned and shaped (widened), they are filled with a bio-compatible filling material called gutta-percha. This seals off the canals to prevent re-contamination and provides protection for the tooth structure. 6. Sealing the Access Cavity: After the root canals have been filled, the access cavity is covered with a temporary or permanent filling materials to prevent bacteria and debris from entering it and causing an infection. 7. Restoration: Sometimes, a tooth that has undergone root canal therapy may need additional restoration, such as a dental crown (cap), to protect and restore the tooth function. A dental crown is placed on the tooth to restore its natural appearance and functionality. Root canal treatment is very successful in saving teeth that might otherwise need to be extracted because of the infection of the pulp. With proper maintenance and good oral hygiene, a tooth that has gotten a root canal can function normally for years or even decades, allowing patients to preserve their natural smiles.

It was so easy to find a doctor and make an appointment. I didn't have to take hours to call different offices and find out who takes my insurance and who doesn't.

I'm a freelancer, so I can't buy insurance easily, so I always ended up paying a lot for doctors' visits. I signed up for a Doctors Network dental plan, and my dental cleanings cost only $25 now. If you don't have dental insurance I highly recommend it.

I fell off my bike and chipped my front tooth. I was able to find and book an appointment online right away. Next time I need an appointment I'll try Doctors Network again.
