He put this passion on hold after making the move to the United States, choosing to earn a Bachelor of Science degree in electrical engineering instead. After graduating magna cum laude from the University of Houston, he worked as an electrical engineer for a few years but quickly realized that dentistry was his true calling. He attended the University of Texas Dental Branch where he earned his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree in 2001. He graduated valedictorian.
